Multi-State Criminal Records
Description: Clients concerned about workplace violence and the potential for negligent hiring lawsuits understand the need for a criminal background check. Unfortunately, the structure of the United States court system makes conducting criminal background checks challenging, time-consuming and expensive.
EmploySecure’s Widescreen Nationwide Criminal Record search enables employers to conduct a broad initial criminal record search through exclusive access to more than 200 million criminal records, with thousands of new records added each month.
Data Sources: This comprehensive database includes information compiled from a variety of sources nationwide and public access records:
- Select state and county criminal repositories
- National Background Database proprietary record information
- Federal wanted persons search
- Terrorist watch list
- Prison, parole and release files
- Sex Offender Registries
- Other state agencies
Information reported: The client is given the information from the background check records if some criminal court cases are found during the court record search.
Turnaround Time: Immediate for clears, within 48 to 72 hours for re-verified hits.
Criminal Court Dockets
Description: The United States has two court systems consisting of the state and federal systems. Some offenses are violations of Federal Law as opposed to state or local law and thus the criminal record can be found only in the Federal Court System.
As you are probably aware, the Federal Criminal Record search is a name based search which can produce numerous possible federal court cases on an applicant without any verifying information.
EmploySecure recognizes the difficulty that this presents and has been working on providing a cost-effective solution for our clients. The name based court record search is a database search that is economical to use, but when it produces numerous results without verifying them, it can be difficult to understand and use. A district by district search on a subject or searching the districts where records are found in the nationwide database search can quickly become cost-prohibitive.
Data Sources: Online database
Information reported: EmploySecure is now offering verified Federal Criminal Record searches. These searches work exactly the same way that the county criminal searches work. The district that will initially be searched will be the district where the applicant currently resides and this will be auto-populated for you in our system. From there, you can use the pre-pull tool just like you do for county criminal record searches to select the additional districts where the applicant has lived for the past 7 years based on the SSN trace to search additional counties.
These searches will be verified searches and the information you receive back will be verified with the exception of a few districts that do not keep personal information such as dates of births or SSN’s in the case file.
Only a small percentage of criminal cases are violations of Federal Law. However, federal offenses usually consists of very severe offenses involving kidnapping, drug trafficking, bank robbery, embezzlement, and interstate transportation of stolen goods.
Turnaround Time: The turn around time for this search averages same day to 3 business days.
State wide Criminal Records
Description: This search is conducted via a database search and the search results vary by state. In general, most state criminal sources provide information regarding criminal conviction records of an individual statewide. Some states even include criminal arrest records.
We recommend combining this search with the County Criminal Record Search for each county where the subject has lived for the past 7 years for the most accurate results. (Many searches such as the SSN Verification will provide an address history for the subject to use for this purpose).
Data Sources: The statewide criminal record search is a great starting point, but is not completely accurate as it relies on each county/jurisdiction to report the crimes/offenses to the state reporting repositories. Due to neglect, data entry or non participation, the state repositories may not contain all of the subject’s criminal record.
Information reported: Results typically provide the date of the crime, case number, defendant name, date of birth, race, sex, charge(s) and disposition/sentence.
Turnaround Time: You will receive the results of this search virtually instantly.
County Criminal Records
Description: When an employee will be in constant contact with the public or your company assets, a criminal history search is a critical component of the screening process. Searching for possible past criminal activity protects the employer and demonstrates due diligence in the event of litigation.
This search is conducted in person in the field by trained investigators. We recommend conducting this search in the counties where the subject has lived for at least the last 7 years and combining this search with the Statewide Criminal Record Search or Nationwide Criminal Record Search.
Data Sources: EmploySecure provides criminal history reports from all U.S. counties, from all states where they are available (37 states) and many foreign countries. Our team of experienced investigators research and report back to our clients the most accurate records in our industry.
Information reported: The search will locate felony within a particular county and is the most accurate of all of the county criminal record searches. County searches can reveal smaller crimes that federal or state searches might not record or that might not be reported to them. This search can be conducted in the State and/or Federal court system.
Turnaround Time: The county criminal record search takes on an average same day – 3 business days.

National Wants and Warrants

USIS Retail Theft Database
Description: Over the past few years, USIS (formerly USMA) has identified nearly 45,000 applicants with records of theft…most of whom cannot be found in standard public records because they were never prosecuted. This information is critical to prevent hiring thieves who would otherwise go undetected using the usual background check records.
Most employee theft incidents are never prosecuted, because the information in the USIS National Theft Database is not available anywhere else. It contains exclusive information shared only between members. It is constantly updated with new incidents. Information in the USIS National Theft Database is fully compliant with the FCRA.
This search requires the customer to also participate in the program by reporting similar acts of theft by its own employees.
Data Sources: The USIS National Theft Database records shoplifting and employee theft incidents from nearly 1,000 member companies. Checking your applicants against the USIS National Theft Database will help protect you from hiring known thieves. The USIS National Theft Database operates on an efficient and streamlined system.
Information reported: If a record indicates that an applicant has admitted to stealing from a member company, the case information is re-verified before being disseminated.
Turnaround Time: This search results in instant results.
